Comeaux ends 27-year Ken Cole championship drought |

The host team Comeaux Spartans came away with three individual champions and a team tournament championship at the 40th Annual Ken Cole Invitational, held last Friday and Saturday at Comeaux High School.
Comeaux was involved in the first four finals
matches and in three of them Spartans won individual championships.
Seth Oubre at 120 lbs., Hunter Fitch at 138 lbs. and
Kole Miller at 170
lbs. received medals, championship sweatshirts, a weight class
bracket and a king cake for advancing to the top spot on the podium.
Runners-up for Comeaux were Blake Menard at 106 lbs., Dylan Ames at 113
lbs., Dyllon Bernard at 126 lbs. and Kasey Toups at 170 lbs.
Finishing third for the Spartans were Jake Verret at 138 lbs. and Evan
Richards at 145 lbs. Pierce Richards placed fifth at 152 lbs. and
Hayden Parker placed sixth at 182 lbs.

The Spartans scored 278 points to win the team championship. Jesuit, with 220 points, received the second place trophy while Holy Cross, with 201 points, placed third. The top Division II team was Teurlings Catholic, whose 152.5 points were scored without the services of three time defending Division II state champion Brock Bonin. North Vermillion, which placed eighth with 101 points, was the highest Division III team placer.
*After the completion of the 126 lbs. finals match, disruptive behavior resulted in the disqualification of Bush as well as the forfeiture of all of the points he scored for Holy Cross. However, as the match had been completed with Bush winning it, the runner-up was not awarded the championship.
Kiefer Fuselier of Sulphur (106 lbs.), Gavin Becker of North Vermillion (113 lbs.), Ellis Herring of Episcopal (182 lbs.) and Rodrigo Diaz of Lafayette (220 lbs.) won the remaining championships.
Patron, Jr. and Rando defended the Ken Cole Invitational championships they won in 2015.
Outstanding Wrestlers and Ken Cole Distinguished Service Award
Rando also defended his lower weight classes Outstanding Wrestler award from 2015. In the heavier weights, Lafayette's Rodrigo Diaz was voted the outstanding wrestler.
